MOVIE: SugarW,ForeverM

In 2021, I visited the LAM Museum for the first time. I was captivated by the way the museum invites you to look at art, by the diversity of the works, and by the wonderful art guides. From that moment on, I was determined: the LAM, the one and only, coolest food art museum in the world, was missing one thing. A work by my hand. The hand of the Queen of Candy Floss! (Which eventually became a little more than just a hand: a full self-portrait from head to toe!). I could never have imagined that only two years later this dream would become reality.

My very first big sculptural work, and what an artwork it is,  permanently included in the collection of the LAM Museum. Pinch me, please!

For me, this project at the museum came at an especially meaningful moment, just after becoming the mother of two children. A transformation from a young woman into a strong woman; a mother with all her beautiful scars, feminine curves, and a changed body. I embrace this new form and express it through this self-portrait, made entirely of cotton candy.

And back to the transformation of the material itself, one of the main reasons I chose to work with it as an artist. The airy, sweet sugar clouds transform into a lush, rugged bust. The hardness of the candy floss, once the transformation is complete, symbolises strength. Sculptures of candy floss in shocking pink, pink as a determined and powerful colour. All powerful women deserve to be immortalised in sugar.
