The hanging installation explores the traces that remain after transformation. Delicate lines of candy floss stretch through space like fragile connections that can tighten, break or disappear at any moment. Slowly affected by gravity, humidity and time, the work exists in a constant state between holding on and letting go.
By allowing collapse, residue and change to remain visible, the installation reflects on emotional endurance and the vulnerability inherent in processes of transformation. Rather than resisting change, it searches for ways to carry it forward.

For BIG ART Rotterdam, Martijntje Cornelia will create a new site-specific edition of The Weight of Lightness. The large-scale installation is created directly within the space using candy floss and suspended lines.
Throughout the exhibition, the work will gradually transform under the influence of its surroundings. Gravity, humidity and time become part of the work, allowing its fragile structure to shift, collapse and leave traces behind.
