BE GENTLE AND HARD AS CANDY
Soft textures and hard surfaces. The diverse works of art symbolizes the struggle of grief, the solitude in this process, the ignorance of sadness and trying to be gentle for yourself, your mind and body.
The artworks offer comfort because they are relatable. They can embrace you with their soft parts. They are unbreakable, like the strength of hardened Candy floss. Unfortunately, that is also the strength of loss. Be gentle and hard as candy.
“I want to be kinder to myself, but I thrive behind the tough shell I’ve built around me.”
The little figures I incorporate into the round artwork symbolize the loneliness of mourning. Sometimes, I want to hide away and pretend nothing is wrong. Sometimes, I want to show everyone what I feel, but I don’t. I wish I could be a little girl again, back in the time when my father still seemed to have eternal life ahead of him. These figures go unnoticed, but they are always there. The grief might not always be visible, but it is always present.
